Hawthorne woman Charge in U-Haul Pursuit

A 35-year-old Hawthorne woman that was accused of leading LAPD officers on a wild pursuit in a stolen U-Haul truck is scheduled to be arraigned today. The woman, Shante Johnson is charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer and one count of fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s motor vehicle while driving recklessly as well as driving a vehicle without consent. These charges are all felonies and she faces multiple years in jail if convicted. Along with the felony chargers, Shante Johnson, is charged with three counts of hit and run driving that resulted in damage to properties during the pursuit, which is a misdemeanor. The suspect was seen by police driving a stolen truck, which triggered the pursuit where she was involved in three hit and run crashes. The pursuit was short lived when she rammed into a patrol car, at which point, she fled police on foot. Police quickly caught up with the suspect and arrested her. If the court convicts her, she is facing a maximum of 10 years in prison.
